An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation

Well, I had encountered this issue again on Windows 7. I used to have this issue on Windows XP. Now Windows 7 also had this same problem. It also keep showing error message like Please Insert a new disc, probably you might need to used Method 2.

Method 1: Burn or Play some Audio/Movie files

  • Tried to burn some files on the DVD e.g. movies, songs, documents, etc.. if it failed to burn or closed the DVD/Session, it could mean the CD/DVD Media is bad. Tried another brand
  • Play some AUDIO CD or DVD Movie disc. See if it stop suddenly or prompt some error message that the movie/music cannot play, it really could mean CD/DVD Rom faulty.
  • Last but not least tried Method 2

Method 2: Remove the DVD/CD-ROM drives from Device Manager

  • Go to the Device Manager (shortcut to go Device Manager: Right-click on My Computer --> Properties --> Device Manager)
  • Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives (it will show you the brand of the DVD/CD-ROM drive)
  • Right-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive and selected Uninstall
  • Select OK to uninstall this device
  • Restart the Computer and Windows will automatically re-install the drivers

Method 3: Modify the registry (be little cautious when doing it)

In the Run command, type regedit
Regedit will be shown
Right-click and Run as Administrator (Click Allow)
Press F3 (shortcut), paste this 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 into the Find what, click Find Next
Or you can Uncollapse [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
Press F3 again as this is not what we are looking.

Right-click UpperFilters and select Delete

  • Look for LowerFilters and also do the same steps by deleting it. (If you are using SATA DVD/CD-ROM drive in Windows 7, you might not see LowerFilters)
  • Restart the computer once it done.
